Antique 18THC Needlework Sampler by Margaret Hill 1796 Silk on Linen Embroidery

A lovely Georgian period sampler made in England 1796. The piece is made from linen with silk thread needlework. The detail is very good and is signed by Margaret Hill. 

It has been preserved under glass which has recently been replaced by previous owner. The sampler was one of three from a family collection we purchased in St Ives Cambridgeshire. This sampler is the earliest dated one. 

Condition is good for the age. There is some fading to the silk and a couple of organic historic pin head sized losses to the silk backing a very small marks otherwise very good overall shape.

9 & 5/8" or 2.4cm width, 7 & 1/2" or 19cm height

To frame 11 & 1/2" or 29cm height , 13 & 1/2" or 34.5cm width
