Bio;

The history of Derby Samson & Hancock is tied to the rich tradition of English porcelain manufacturing. The company was established in 1848 at King Street, Derby, by six former workers from the Nottingham Road china works, including Sampson Hancock. Initially, the business operated under the name "Locker & Co." but underwent changes in ownership and branding over the year.

In 1861, Sampson Hancock became the sole proprietor and introduced the "S & H" mark, which was registered in 1877. This mark distinguished the company's porcelain from earlier Derby works and became a hallmark of its craftsmanship. Sampson Hancock was known for his skill as a flower painter, and signed pieces are highly sought after by collectors. The company continued under his leadership until his death in 1898, after which it passed to his grandson.

The King Street factory produced exquisite porcelain pieces, including tableware and decorative items, and contributed significantly to Derby's reputation as a center for fine ceramics
