The Minton Dressing Table Set from around c. 1850 is a beautiful example of Victorian-era craftsmanship. Minton, an English pottery and tile manufacturer, was known for its high-quality porcelain and decorative pieces during the 19th century.
This particular set, with its pink floral designs, would have been used for dressing and bathing, personal grooming, featuring item three pieces. There is a bowl with domed lid that is decorated with floral illustrations inside and outside. This is suitable for use as a soap dish, pot pourri, or posy bowl. The lid can be used as a drain or a cover/ holder.
There is an oblong pot with cover that would store toothbrush, pins or could be used for pens today.
There is also a bowl without cover. This is perfect for soaps or holding small items The intricate hand-painted designs are characteristic of the period and showcase the artistry of Minton's artisans.
Condition Notes;
Bowl with domed cover; this measures 7 & 3/4 or 8.8cm diameter. There is some crazing to the glaze where areas have some staining. The rim has two fine hairlines and a small chip/crack. The handle has some wear to the glaze. The lid has a hairline.
Oblong pot; Rim hairline to the lid. crazing. Otherwise no chips or cracks.
Open bowl; There is crazing to the base otherwise no other notable defects.
Overall the inspection of the items found some small issues, there were none that detract from the quality of the pieces and together they make a very attractive display.
