A 19thc antique Wedgwood jasperware neoclassical style trojan jug with metal lid that has a weighted knop inside that pulls the lid open to pour without the need to touch it. Quite an extraordinary design which can be viewed in action via the attached video.

The piece measures 5" or 12.5cm in height to the top of the finial.

Date mark is pre 1891.

Condition is very good with no chips cracks crazing or restoration. The silver plate on the patina on the lid has worn.

Wedgwood Jasperware is one of Josiah Wedgwood's most celebrated innovations, first developed in the 1770s. After years of experimentation, Wedgwood perfected this unique type of stoneware, which is characterized by its unglazed matte finish and relief decorations in contrasting colors, often white on a colored background. The most iconic shade, known as "Wedgwood Blue," became synonymous with the brand.

Jasperware was inspired by the Neoclassical style, reflecting the artistic trends of the 18th century. The relief designs were crafted by leading artists of the time, adding to its appeal.
