Bio
The character of Pra Apai Manee
Literary origin: Prince Pra Apai Manee is the hero of a 30,000-line epic poem of the same name, written by Thailand's most revered royal poet, Sunthorn Phu (1786–1855).
  • The magical flute: The prince's magical flute is his defining feature. He chose to study music rather than the typical governance or martial arts skills expected of a royal. The music from his flute has the power to charm and put others to sleep, and in some stories, even kill.
  • Exile and adventure: His father, disappointed by his choice of study, exiles him from the kingdom. This begins the prince's long series of adventures, which include being captured by a sea ogress and escaping with a mermaid.
