Bio;
Robert Held is a renowned glass artist who has made significant contributions to the art glass movement in Canada. Born in Santa Ana, California, he initially pursued painting and earned a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California. His journey into glassblowing began in 1968 after a visit to the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, which inspired him to launch Canada’s first college-level hot glass program at Sheridan College in 1966.
Held later founded his own glass studio, Skookum Art Glass, in Calgary, Alberta, and eventually moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where he established Robert Held Art Glass. His works are celebrated for their vibrant colors and intricate designs, often drawing inspiration from Impressionist painters like Monet and Klimt. Over his career, Held's creations have earned prestigious awards and are featured in prominent collections, including the Royal Collection
