A fine pair of matched Staffordshire sheep made in England during the Victorian period.
They are in very good condition overall. Close inspection found both bocage (trees) have had historical damage and repair with some losses and chips that we have shown for clarity in the images. Please inspect for your own understanding of the items and see that these display beautifully as a rare pair.
Measure 4 & 7/8" or 12.5cm in height
Features;
-
Confetti Texture: Created by applying tiny bits of colored slip (liquid clay) to mimic wool—giving the sheep a fluffy, almost sugar-coated look.
-
Bocage Scene: A leafy tree or floral backdrop, often with a central trunk and foliage, forming a decorative arch or canopy behind the animals.
-
Flatback Design: Made to sit on a mantel, the back is unglazed and flat—typical of Staffordshire figures from 1830–1870.
