Meissen porcelain holds a fascinating place in history as the first European hard-paste porcelain. Its story begins in the early 18th century when Johann Friedrich Böttger, an alchemist, and Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus, a physicist, discovered the secret to creating true porcelain. Their experiments were funded by Augustus the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, who had a passion for porcelain and established the Meissen factory near Dresden in 1710.
Meissen porcelain quickly gained fame for its exceptional quality and artistry. The factory introduced innovative designs, including porcelain figurines and European decorative styles, moving away from the imitation of Asian motifs. Its iconic crossed swords logo, introduced in 1720, is one of the oldest trademarks in existence.
Over the centuries, Meissen has remained a leader in porcelain manufacturing, adapting to new styles and techniques while preserving its legacy. Today, it is considered one of the world's most prestigious porcelain brands.
