Presenting two antique copper plate engravings.

The pair were sold by print seller Thomas Macklin. Thomas Macklin (1752/53 – 1800)

He was a notable British print seller and picture dealer in the late 18th century

Both engravings are by Bartolozzi an Italian engraver known for his stipple engraving technique, which created detailed, delicate images reminiscent of chalk drawings.

The first illustrates the Nymph of Immortality engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi. This piece is part of the Shakespeariana series, which celebrates the works and legacy of William Shakespeare. The engraving depicts the nymph crowning the bust of Shakespeare, surrounded by the allegorical figures of Love.

This engraving was based on an original painting by Giovanni Battista Cipriani, a renowned artist born in Florence in 1727 and who passed away in London in 1785.

The second engraving, created by artist Giacomo Amiconi, depicts the Greek mythological character Euphrosine dancing or playing a tambourine. The date on the back of the engraving is 1781.

Condition Report; Inspection found the overall condition of the pieces to be very good for the antique age. It was noted that the frames have some small chips, and areas have been historically repaired/ repainted. The prints are very well preserved. There are two minor losses to the print edge on Euphosine (see image provided) otherwise prints appear very good. 

There are some minor marks and small debris/ trapped insect below the glass. 

Measures 14 & 1/2" or 37cm height 12 & 1/2" or 32cm width
