An antique clown / Pierrot figurine made c1923 by The Orchies company, based in Dax France, renowned for its polychrome earthenware figures, which became popular during the early 20th century. This figurine was designed by master ceramicist Edouard Cazaux 13" or 33cm in height.
The piece is handmade ceramic and it has a distinctive attractive crazed glaze, intentional craquelure.

Édouard Cazaux (1889-1974) was a distinguished French sculptor and ceramist, known for his significant contributions to the Art Deco movement. Born in Cauneille, France, he grew up in a family of potters and began his artistic journey at a young age. Cazaux studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and the École de Sèvres in Paris, where he honed his skills in sculpture and ceramics.
Cazaux's work is celebrated for its vibrant glazes, simple forms, and beautiful hand-painted decorations. He often incorporated themes from classical Greek sculpture, the Far East, and Primitive and African art. His pieces are displayed in prestigious museums, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
