Antique Doulton Lambeth Jug / Pitcher 19thc Victorian Salt Glaze Stoneware

An English pottery jug made by Doulton c1858~91. Measures 7 & 3/4/2 or 19.5cm in height. 

Condition inspection found historic restoration to spout and foot rim. There are some flea bite nibbles to the foot rim and the pattern body has some small chips. These details are all small and do not detract from the quality of the piece. It is an attractive piece of Victorian historic stoneware that displays very well. 

Bio ; Doulton Lambeth jugs are highly collectible Victorian-era stoneware pieces, produced by Doulton & Co. in Lambeth, London from the 19th century onward. These jugs are known for their salt-glazed finishes. 

Doulton & Co., later known as Royal Doulton, was founded in 1815 by John Doulton in Lambeth, London. Initially, the company specialized in salt-glazed stoneware, producing storage jars, tankards, and drainage pipes. Over time, Doulton expanded into decorative ceramics, becoming one of the first British makers of art pottery.

In 1853, the company was renamed Doulton & Co., and by 1882, it had opened a factory in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, shifting focus to bone china tableware and decorative items. The company gained royal recognition in 1901, receiving a Royal Warrant and adopting the name Royal Doulton.

Doulton was known for its innovative designs, collaborating with artists from the Lambeth School of Art and pioneering translucent china in the 1960s. Today, Royal Doulton produces tableware, figurines, cookware, and home accessories, maintaining its legacy of fine craftsmanship
