A jug with beautiful design that is part of a series where one is exhibited in the V & A London. Made at Old Hall Works, Hanley. It has so much detail and condition is excellent for the age.

The Charles Meigh Bacchanalian Jug, also known as the Bacchanalian Dance Jug, is a mid-19th century stoneware piece created by Charles Meigh around 1844This jug features intricate moulded designs inspired by classical art including scenes from Nicholas Poussin’s “Bacchanalian Revel Before a Herm of Pan” and Peter Paul Rubens’ "Drunken Silenus".

The jug is notable for its detailed craftsmanship, with grapes and leaves adorning the top and handleIt’s a beautiful example of Victorian-era ceramics and is highly valued by collectors.

The jug measures 9 & 1/4" or 23.5cm's in height.

Condition~ In excellent condition with no chips cracks or crazing. There is some organic original speckled surface marking to the stoneware exterior and interior that can be seen in the images. The manufacture method was known as smear wear.
