Bio
John Grinsell & Sons was a Birmingham-based silversmith company that operated from 1871 to the early 20th century. Originally known as Grinsell & Bourne, the company took on its final name after the original partnership dissolved.
John Grinsell went into business with his four sons, establishing manufacturing workshops in Birmingham and showrooms in Holborn Circus, London, and Glasgow. They specialized in silver-mounted glass and stoneware, producing items such as lock-up liquor frames, biscuit boxes, butter dishes, cups, cruet frames, flagons, and salad bowls.
In 1879, they registered their trademark, featuring a Cupid standing on a scroll. By 1905, the company became John Grinsell & Sons Ltd, and later, it was acquired by Barker Ellis & Co. Ltd, which eventually went into administration in 1992
