Early Antique Royal Doulton Jug from c1881 which has numerous potters marks underside including Francis Lee, Josephine Newnham, Lizzie Padbury and Louisa Ayling.

A Frances E. Lee was a talented artist who joined Doulton in the 1870s. She was part of a group of gifted lady designers, including Edith Lupton, Eliza Simmance, and the Barlow sisters (Hannah, Lucy, and Florence). Lee specialized in precise incised and carved work, producing both Stoneware and Siliconware. Her work is known for its strong colours and meticulous detail, often featuring small, precisely glazed areas. Lee worked at Doulton from 1876 to 1894, creating high-quality items with a strong visual impact. This piece has her mark and also Josephine Newnham. Josephine Newnham was a talented artist who worked at Doulton, known for her collaboration with other artists like Eleanor Tosen. She was active during the late 19th century, particularly from 1891 to 1902, and held the position of Senior Assistant. Her work often featured intricate designs and careful attention to detail, contributing to the high-quality craftsmanship associated with Doulton.
