Japanese blue Sometsuke plates are a type of porcelain that originated in Japan, particularly during the Edo period (1603-1868). The term "Sometsuke" means "to dye" in Japanese, and these plates are known for their beautiful blue and white designs. The blue color is achieved by using underglaze cobalt oxide, called "Gosu" in Japan, which is painted on a white porcelain base and then covered with a transparent glaze.

These plates often feature intricate patterns, including landscapes, floral motifs, and scenes from daily life. They are highly prized by collectors for their craftsmanship and historical significance.
