Medal commemorating William Roscoe by Allen and Moore 1853 Antique

The 1853 medal commemorating William Roscoe was issued to celebrate the centenary of his birth. Roscoe was a prominent historian, poet, and abolitionist from Liverpool. The medal was designed by Allen and Moore, featuring Roscoe's bust on the obverse with the inscription "ROSCOE MAYER LIVERPOOL, DIREXIT." The reverse bears the text "CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH-DAY OF ROSCOE. LIVERPOOL, MARCH VIII, MDCCCLIII" within a laurel wreath.
