A Victorian glass paperweight with one large centrepiece flower and four smaller flowers projecting from the vase.
This is a very attractive weight with a large floral center and 4 flowers sitting at the base of the pot. It is a large weigh and measures 4 & 1/4" or 10.7cm in height. There are some insignificant scratches and marks to the surface and a very tiny bruise.
Overall condition is very good with no cracks. There is roughness underside where the pontil was snapped and some sooty debris from the original manufacture which are both aspects which verify the authenticity of the antique. This is an original Victorian piece of glass and the size is particularly impressive with a heavy weight if 1.55 kgs.

Dump glass, often associated with Victorian-era craftsmanship, has a fascinating history. These glass objects were typically made from leftover molten glass at the end of a workday in glass factories, which might otherwise have been discarded. The term "dump" likely originates from this practice of using up surplus material.
These pieces were often crafted into paperweights or doorstops and were commonly made from green bottle glass. Many featured intricate internal decorations, such as metal foil designs, air bubble patterns, or even fine powder patterns that created floral motifs.
The production of dump glass was particularly prominent in the 19th century in regions like Yorkshire, the Midlands, and the North East of England.
